Vine for Android now fully compatible with BlackBerry 10’s Android Runtime

Up until now, the Vine for Android app was compatible for Android users running 4.0+. A few days ago, the Vine devs released an update for their Android app, adding support for users running 2.3.3. BlackBerry 10 users could partially run this app running 10.2, until now….

Up until now, the Vine for Android app would successfully sideload onto a BlackBerry 10 device. However, recording a Vine was not compatible (“Your device is not compatible” messages would appear) thus making the app just another “Vine Viewer”. Whether or not having Gingerbread support has fixed this issue, but I personally obtained the APK directly from Google Play and I can confirm that recording and uploading Vine’s from the official Android app now works on BlackBerry 10.

Again, since the app is now supported for users running Gingerbread i.e 2.3.3, this should technically mean any BlackBerry 10 user running 10.1 and above should have no problem in sideloading Vine for Android. I, myself, am running the latest 10.2.1 leak and recording and uploading works. Although the first time I loaded the camera, it ticked my phone off, causing it to reboot but I haven’t had a single hitch since.

Give it a go! Installing an Android app on a BlackBerry 10 device has never been easier before with the OTA APK installation feature being implemented on 10.2.1 and with a native, third party Google Play app store for BlackBerry 10 (Snap), obtaining an APK and running it on your BlackBerry is a breeze. I’ve personally been a fan of the Android support since day 1 – it’s probably kept me from owning multiple devices. As much as native is the best, an Android APK will suffice for now, especially with native, third party clients coming soon (Whine, anyone?)

Vine developers, if you’re reading this, please consider a native BlackBerry 10 app. Cheers!

If you’re running 10.2.1 and haven’t already sideloaded Snap, download it here and you can download Vine from there.
