Just wanted to drop in and give a quick review of the latest item that I received from my favorite BlackBerry accessory site, Brando Workshop. As many of you that follow BlackBerry Empire know Brando Workshop is my go to place for anything my device may need, as far as accessories goes. The item that I will be letting you know about today is a 3200mAh Power Jacket designed for the BlackBerry Z30.
As with every item I received from Brando Workshop (I have probably ordered 10 or so items) they arrived fast and protected from anything that may happen during shipping. This latest Power Jacket actually showed up in a well padded bubble envelope and inside that was a hard plastic case. The hard case is actually nice to keep as it provides a place to store the Power Jacket when I’m not using it on my device.
Once I opened the plastic case and removed the Power Jacket I could instantly feel that it was made of high quality material that was both durable and dust resistant. I could also see how easy it would be to attach, or remove my BlackBerry Z30. In fact all I had to do was line up the devices USB port with the Power Jackets charging element and I was good to go.
To actually start using the Power Jacket there is an on/off button that is located on the back. Once it was turned on there are four LED indicator lights that showed me exactly how charged up the Power Jacket is. One LED means 25% or less, two LEDs means 50% or less, three means 75% or less, and four means 100% or less. There’s even a cutout on the back for the camera.
Now I know the BlackBerry Z30 gets great battery life so you may be asking, why do I like this case so much? Well honestly, you just never know what life may throw at us. I am personally a very very heavy user of my BlackBerry and my battery life is not typical of the average person, but I did want to see how far an average person can go without the need to plug it in.
As I said I’m on my device ALL THE TIME so I decided to reach out to a family member to help with the testing. I called my mom and asked if she would help me and after a 30 second conversation (I think she said yes even before I asked) she was more than willing to play with the Z30 for a few days. So you know my mom uses her device in a way an average person may, at least I think she does. She makes a few calls a day, surfs the web a little, plays her Candy Crush game, receives about 10 emails, and maybe 50 or so texts/BBM’s throughout the day. She’s retired so I’m not really sure where she goes during the day which means her radio signal probably varies from place to place.
I had her fully charge the BlackBerry Z30 as well as the Power Jacket, and then we let the testing began. The Z30’s initial charge gave her a tad over 2 days of use before she needed to turn on the Power Jacket. She let me know that once the Power Jacket was on that it took a couple hours to get the BlackBerry fully charged again. She then turned off the charger and went about her normal use of the device which gave her more 2 days before it was almost once again empty (20% or less). Over time she was able to use the Brando Workshop 3200mAh Power Jacket a total of three times to fully charge the Z30 before the LEDs on the back let her know she needed to plug that item back in as well. So that means (if my math is correct) she was able to go a grand total of 8 days without the need of electricity. I don’t know about any of you but 8 days of not having to plug in to a wall outlet sounds like something I can really look forward too.
