Want to be the guy/gal with the coolest Blackberry on your block? Listen up! Get NewGlass, a hot new theme, and install it to your phone. NewGlass is a theme for OS5 and OS6 and for practically EVERY Blackberry model. The theme has a hidden dock, transparent menus and banners, and a hidden Today. You will be able to use wallpapers of any sort with this theme and still be able to perform basic tasks from the home screen.
The first feature you notice on this theme is the transparent banner which seems to take up a large part of the screen…but it doesn’t! The transparent banner works like magic to allow your wallpaper to show through. The banner includes the date and time, along with the signal meters and profiles icon. To the right, there is an OCD slot for the weather, if you are a weather user. In the banner, you also have the weather data displayed. The upper banner on the home screen contains the notification bar, battery meter and your cellular signal. That’s a lot of information on the screen, but you barely notice it as your wallpaper is unobstructed with the transparent banner. Functional and well, pretty.
Once you click on the date, you see the Today screen. The Today screen lists your Messages, BBM messages, Text messages and your Calendar entries.
Did I mention NewGlass has a hidden dock? Make it appear by Alt * and to make it disappear Alt #. This adds even more functionality to your home screen. I don’t know about you, but I love it when I can do almost everything I need to without hitting the BB Button and having to leave my home screen. The dock holds 6 regular sized icons on a transparent sliding dock that floats in from the right. All of the menus are transparent as well, so you can still see the screens behind you while working.
At the bottom of the home screen, you can move the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th icons from the Apps screen onto the anchored dock. Again, you can see through to your wallpaper so nothing looks chopped off. Functional and customizable, NewGlass has a lot going for it!
