Image of BlackBerry Passport running Android leaked

Android on Passport

An image of a BlackBerry Passport running Android has been released by well-regarded leaker @evleaks, just hours after his tweet claiming the BlackBerry Slider will run Android.

Although the image appears to be a render, @evleaks has been known to leak accurate renders in the past. It features a virtual keyboard component that is skinned like the stock Android keyboard, but includes all the same functions that the Passport currently sees on BlackBerry 10. If accurate, this suggests that BlackBerry will be keeping the stock Android keyboard, though it won’t make much difference on physical keyboard devices like the Passport.

The render also features the back, home, and app drawer buttons that are typical for Android 5.0 and above. The back button has been adapted to hide the virtual keyboard component when it is visible, while an extra button resembling a keyboard will presumably expand it. The shift and symbols buttons are present on the left and right respectively, exactly like they are on BlackBerry 10.

No details were offered with the tweet. However, with two such leaks being dropped by a reputable source, an Android-powered BlackBerry almost seems inevitable. Let us know what you think about this in the comments!
