BlackBerry Torch Spotlight

I know that the BlackBerry Torch is a year old at this moment but, I felt the need to give it some credit for it’s accomplishments. The BlackBerry Torch was the first “real” touch screen device for RIM. It was the first device to be released with BlackBerry 6 as a native OS and it was the first slider BlackBerry. Why does any of this matter? Look at today’s Berrys and tell me where they got their spark. BB7 is based off of BB6. The 9810-60 series devices are all Torch brands. The acquisition of Torch Mobile to build the webkit browser was the real beginning but, for sake of devices being the key factor in all of this, we’ll just say that the 9800 pioneered the new age for future BlackBerry devices. First off, let’s toss the negativity about the Torch behind us. Everything that it could have or should have been has been addressed with the new brands so, no Torch bashing in this session. The screen on the Torch was the best any BB user could want. Nice size, capacative, no “clicking” etc… The Torch brand is very unique. It doesn’t try to be like anything other than another BlackBerry. It has the awesome Bold keyboard that we cherish so much, along with the premium accuracy of an optical trackpad. The trackpad was first used on the 9700 and, my goodness, that was an amazing device when it was released. The Torch followed suit but, boasting more RAM for better operating and a 5MP camera for better shooting(auto-focus), the crispy BlackBerry 6 for better, uh, stuff in general. Anyway, Where would we be if the Torch hadn’t been released to first, take another step in the right direction and second, be there to admit what flaws RIM needed to correct on all BlackBerrys.

Now, that’s the Torch as a whole. Here’s what my Torch is for me.
