As demand in Indonesia (the world’s fourth- most populous country with about 248 million people) rises, Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM) plans a campaign to increase retail outlets in Indonesia and Thailand, seeking to capitalize on rising demand for its BlackBerry smartphones in Southeast Asia and offset slumping U.S. sales.
While at MWC RIM has demonstrated something never before seen. PitchRocket allows you to take full advantage of your BlackBerry smartphone and PlayBook tablet when it comes to giving presentations using what they call “effortless aesthetics.” Pretty cool if you ask me. According to Chitika, it seems as almost half of BlackBerry PlayBook owners out there have made the jump to OS 2.0. The number of users still on the original Tablet OS is right under the 50% mark, leaving a large amount of users already on RIM’s future platform. An interesting note is that the report states that the OS 2.0 will jump to about 75% of PlayBooks running OS 2.0 in three weeks. This is good news for RIM going forward as OS 2.0 is the building block for the future of BlackBerry.
Alex Bowker – Ecosystem Business Development Manager, RIM, gives a demo on the Media Server functionality available on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone. Alex shows you how you can share videos, music and photos with family and friends through with Media Server on a PlayStation 3 at Mobile World Congress 2012.
We already know that the building block of the future starts with PlayBook OS 2.0 and will shift into BlackBerry 10 going forward. That said, many are worried that pre BB 10 users meaning OS 5, 6, and 7 will be left out in the cold. Don’t worry because according to RIM, they are fully supporting the community and providing enhancements and updates to tools,APIs and OS features for OS 5, 6 & 7. It will be interesting to see what this means going forward but its good to know RIM still plans to keep their original BlackBerry OS relevant to the market.
We’ve already seen what TAT can bring to the table and we’ve heard that RIM has plans to integrate Cascades into the BlackBerry 10 platform. If you’re unfamilair what Cascades is and does, RIM has broken it down for you. In short, it allows developers to easily create Astonishing User Interfaces.
