More Than A Smartphone, It’s A BlackBerry

So talking with some of the other editors tonight about font sizes on the BlackBerry, the white iPhone being delayed until Spring 2011 (reasons why – some “adult language”).  I started thinking about all the ways I’ve used my BlackBerry in the last 72 hours.  I’m getting married on Friday, and am constantly on the go doing final tasks.  Add to that the responsibilities at home with animals/a kid, I don’t have time to slow down.  My discontinued, 8900 Curve (not even a new model) no less is able to keep up beautifully.  Hit the jump for the full list and why the picture up top, is a nail in the wall.

  1. Education: Well, the Podcast app.  When I’m driving, cleaning, pretty much anytime I can I’ve got a Podcast or Audible book in my ear.  I listened to nearly 4 hours worth of podcasts.
  2. Flash Light: No, not the screen.  The flash, pop the BlackBerry into Video Camera mode, turn on the light, and BAM, suddenly you can see exactly how you’re going to run the coax through the attic, or make sure you don’t step in any dog droppings when you cut through the neighbor’s yard.
  3. Record Keeping: Needed to make sure that I could hold the caterer accountable, launched voice recorder and kept a log of the conversation.
  4. Feedback: While out shopping, I needed to make sure I picked up the correct item, snapped a photo and BBM’ed it to the missus.  Done.
  5. Entertainment: While waiting in line I launched a game of Dots (we had it before those other blogs) and played against my son.  He’s getting better, but I still crushed him!
  6. Navigation: Dropped aforementioned son off at a friend’s house for a birthday party sleepover.  Had never been to their house, launched the GPS and away we went!
  7. 411: Did some voice searching with the Google Search app.  Nabbed a phone number, ordered pizza from a new place.  Was pretty good pizza too!
  8. Planning: This is also slightly with the next point, but using the calendar, and adding attendees, it is very easy to keep everything organized – especially with the holiday season now in full swing, knowing who’s bringing the turkey, ham, and of course – pumpkin pie, is crucial!
  9. Communication: I mean, really there was a lot of this.  Phone (see #7), verification (see #4), brainstorming (see intro), Facebook, Twitter, E-mail, and lots, and lots, of BBMing.  Very social. And finally…
  10. Hammer: Well, okay so it wasn’t the ACTUAL BlackBerry, but I have a nice Seidio Innocase 360 on it, which allowed me to retack that nail deeper into the wall after I knocked it down & out.

This is just a small list of what’s possible on the BlackBerry.  When I head to bed tonight, I’ll double check the alarm, but I won’t be plugging it in.  My BlackBerry still has just under 50% of battery life.  My BlackBerry does so much more than E-mail.
