For lovers of themes for BlackBerry phones, here comes a twin surprise: DP2 and DP4, FREE themes by Daniel Peralta, otherwise known as odpm1977 (screen name) of Crackberry.com fame. I have been using these themes for days an I LOVE them! Daniel has an eye for creative design and functionality and best of all, a generous heart to make these themes available for FREE. Even tho there are two themes here to discuss, they share some similarities. They both feature a hide-able dock of mini icons, an OCD slot that hides, and an easy on-screen way of calling up the dock. Let’s look at DP2 first. The clock and date appear in the upper corner and the OCD slot in the opposite corner. Turn the OCD on and off with Alt 1/2. At the bottom of the screen of DP2, you will see the notification bar, battery meter, and signal meter. These are ALL shortcuts! How cool is that? The battery opens Options, the notification bar opens Messages and signal meter opens Manage Connections. Access your entire Berry without ever leaving the home screen, and do it with ONE HAND!
Want to see the 9 icon dock of mini icons? Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and you will see a blue line appear. Click on the blue line and up pops the dock. ESC dismisses the dock. See? One hand operation. Smooth, fast and did I mention pretty? Here’s another feature of DP2: the background transparency of the glass tubes. Click Alt 4/5 while looking at your home screen and see which way you like it better…transparency on or off.
The menus are transparent and use a gradient grey highlight. I love the classic styling of this theme. It has everything I want if I were making it for myself. It is extremely wallpaper-friendly. The app screen uses a neat grid for your icons and a pale blue highlight that covers OVER your icon, making it very easy to see which icon you have chosen.
What more could you ask for? Fast, smooth, OCD slot, hide-able dock, shortcuts and style! Did I mention that it is FREE? Oh and do you remember that I said there were TWO of Daniel’s themes to explore? Here’s the other one: DP4 and another surprise: it comes in blue and pink!
With DP4, you will notice the upper banner is totally different from DP2. All your info is there: a larger clock, which I personally enjoy. Innovative battery and signal indicators, and a smaller notification bar to the left. Your OCD slot is still hide-able with Alt 1/2. Another difference is the dock. The icons are still mini but now there are 8 instead of 9 which means they are a little bigger…Yay for us older folks!
Other than the differences in banner style and number of icons, the theme operates the same way. This one comes in pink, (pictured above) and blue (pictured below). The apps screen of DP4 is a textured charcoal color with a smokey crystal focus icon.
If you scroll to the bottom of the screen, a bright blue line will appear and once you click on it, up comes your dock. I hid the OCD here. The only change I might personally like is a larger notification bar that will fit more indicators. But that is a personal issue. I use this theme all the time because of the number of icons on the dock. I love having all my icons available, but if you need two hands to get them all up there, why bother? Here with DP4; it’s easy!!! Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click and there you are.
