BlackBerry has not ruled out a possible Phablet release for the future

BlackBerry Z30

CEO of BlackBerry, John Chen, spoke with the Jakarta Post’s Khoirul Amin on how he plans to turn around BlackBerry’s market share and profitability. Everything he said was pretty much what we already know, except for one thing, a Phablet.

When asked if he would consider any other device other than a smartphone for the Indonesian public, John Chen was quick to just suggest releasing a Phablet:

If we will do another thing, we will probably go to phablet. I think if you look at our strategy and if you look at where the market goes, there is definitely a good market for something between a phone and tablet.

Interestingly enough, former CEO of BlackBerry, Thorsten Heins publicly stated that the Tablet would be dead in the years to come and we all know how BlackBerry has treated the PlayBook’s fate in the last year and a half, so it’s not all surprising John Chen is considering a Phablet, as opposed to a full out 7”  or 10” Tablet.

Technically, you can consider the Z30 a phablet. The question remains, is John Chen considering an even bigger Z30 style phone? A 5.5″ Z30 on steroids would be beautiful!
